99CentGigs is for everyone. We want people of all abilities, including people who use screen readers,
keyboards, magnification or other assistive technology, to be able to find work, hire help and post
opportunities on our site.
Our Goal
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA. These are the widely used
standards for making websites accessible.
What We Have Done
- Checked our main pages with automated accessibility testing tools and fixed the problems they found.
- Made sure text and buttons have enough color contrast to be read by people with low vision.
- Given every button, menu and form field a name that screen readers can announce.
- Made the site usable with a keyboard alone, with a clear outline showing where you are, and a
“Skip to main content” link at the top of every page.
- Added a pause button for the moving video on our homepage, and stopped moving effects for anyone who
has turned on “reduce motion” on their device.
- Built pages that resize for phones, tablets and computers, and that still work when text is enlarged.
Known Limitations
- Content posted by users. Listings, photos and videos are created by the people who post
them. Some videos may not have captions, and some photos may not have descriptions.
- Outside services. PayPal checkout and Google sign-in are provided by those companies and
follow their own accessibility standards.
- Government job listings link to the original employer’s site to apply, which we do
not control.
